Family Involvement

How Can You Support Desert Trails?

Desert Trails Elementary welcomes the active participation of parents, grandparents and community members. We believe that children flourish in an academic environment that unites home and school. This supports student enrichment and achievement with a goal of providing the best possible education for each student.

There are many ways to get involved including working as a classroom helper, member of the PTO, field trip chaperone, school council member, and many other opportunities. We encourage you to get involved.

Help Desert Trails Elementary School Through Tax Credit Donations

Making a contribution to receive an Arizona public education tax credit is simple. You can get a tax credit up to $200 for an individual or $400 per married couple.

Tax credit eligible fees paid and contributions made to a public school from January 1 through April 15 of the calendar year may be used as a tax credit on the prior or current year's tax return. For example, qualifying contributions made to a public school between January 1, 2021, and April 15, 2021, may be used as a tax credit on either the taxpayer's 2020 or 2021 Arizona income tax return. (Pub 707 ADOR). For additional information, contact the Finance Department at 602-449-2033.

Arizona tax law allows taxpayers a credit for contributions made or fees paid to a public school for support of extracurricular activities or character education (as defined in ARS 15-719). If married, taxpayers file separate returns: Each spouse may claim one-half of the credit that would have been allowed on a joint return. Extracurricular activities such as sports, band, speech and debate or overnight field trips are generally not fully funded by school districts, so your donation directly supports students.

Parent-Teacher Organization

The Desert Trails Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to enriching the school experience for our students.

Our programs and fundraisers provide students with an array of opportunities that would not otherwise be open to them. We support programs ranging from arts enrichment to teacher continuing education to providing our school nurse with supplies.

We are fortunate to live in a community that is able to invest in students. Please join us as we strive to put every dollar to work to make our school the very best. Our work begins where the school budget ends!
